Automatic subtitles for your videos

Most people watch social videos with the sound off, and captions make your content accessible and easier to find. This subtitle generator listens to your video or audio and writes timed captions automatically. It understands Urdu, English, Hindi, Arabic, Punjabi and dozens of other languages, and it can also translate speech into English subtitles. Your video file stays on your device — only the sound is extracted in your browser and sent for transcription.

How to make subtitles

  1. Drop a video or audio file — MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, M4A or WAV, up to 30 minutes.
  2. Choose the spoken language (or auto-detect) and, if you want, translate to English.
  3. Click Generate subtitles. Long files are split at quiet moments so no word is cut.
  4. Watch the preview with live captions and fix any line: edit text, change times, merge or delete.
  5. Download an SRT file for YouTube, Facebook and editors like Premiere or CapCut, a VTT file for websites, or a plain transcript.

SRT vs VTT — which do I need?

FormatBest for
SRTYouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, VLC
VTT (WebVTT)HTML5 video on websites, Vimeo, online courses
TXTBlog posts, show notes, meeting notes, quotes

Tips for better captions

  • Keep lines to about 42 characters and two lines per caption — the “Fit lines” button does this for you.
  • Type brand names and places in the special words box so they are spelled correctly.
  • Use Shift if all captions are early or late by the same amount.
  • Already have subtitles? Open an SRT or VTT file to edit, retime or convert it for free.
  • Make the video smaller for upload with our video compressor, or convert formats with the MP4 converter.

Privacy and limits

Only a compressed copy of the audio is sent to the speech-to-text service and it is not stored by VeloBranding. AI transcription is part of Pro ($5/month) with 60 minutes a month; editing and converting subtitle files is free.

How it works

  1. Drop a video or audio file. Only the sound is extracted in your browser and sent for transcription — the video itself is never uploaded.
  2. Choose the spoken language, or tick translate to English.
  3. Press Generate subtitles. Long files are split at quiet points so no word is cut.
  4. Edit lines, fix timing and download SRT, VTT or a plain transcript.

Editing tools

  • Click a line to jump the video there and edit the text.
  • Fit lines splits long captions to a maximum line length (42 characters is a common standard).
  • Merge two short captions or delete a line.
  • Shift all timings forward or back when captions are early or late.

Free without AI

Open an existing SRT or VTT file to edit it, convert SRT ↔ VTT, or export a transcript — all free and unlimited.

Which file for which platform?

  • SRT: YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, most video editors.
  • VTT: websites (HTML5 video) and some course platforms.
  • TXT: show notes, blog posts and captions for social media.

AI transcription: signed-in users get one free try a day (the first 2 minutes); Pro includes 60 minutes a month.
