How much does Facebook Marketplace charge?
Listing on Facebook Marketplace is free. Meta only charges a selling fee when the buyer pays through Facebook checkout and you ship the item. In the United States that fee is 10% of the whole order, with a minimum of $0.80. If you meet the buyer and get paid in person, there is no fee at all. This Facebook Marketplace fee calculator works out the fee, what Facebook pays you and your real profit after the shipping label and what you paid for the item.
| Where you sell | Selling fee on checkout orders | Local pickup |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 10% of the whole order, minimum $0.80 | No fee |
| United Kingdom | 2% of the order | No fee |
| Brazil, Singapore | No selling fee | No fee |
| Most other countries (incl. Pakistan, India) | Checkout with shipping usually isn’t available | No fee |

How the Facebook Marketplace fee is calculated
In the US: selling fee = 10% × (item price + shipping the buyer pays + sales tax), and never less than $0.80 (in the UK it is 2% with no minimum). Meta says the fee is “calculated based on the entire amount of the Transaction”, so shipping and tax count too. Items the buyer buys from you and you ship together are one transaction, so they pay one fee.
You get paid = item price + shipping the buyer pays − the selling fee − the shipping label, if you bought a prepaid label through Facebook (its cost is taken from your payout). Sales tax goes to the tax office, not to you. Profit = item price + buyer shipping − fee − label − item cost − packaging.
Example
You sell a jacket for $40 with free shipping in a state with 7% sales tax. The buyer pays $42.80. Facebook’s fee is 10% × $42.80 = $4.28, Buy the $8.00 prepaid label through Facebook and it is taken from your payout too, so Facebook pays you $27.72. After the $15.00 you paid for the jacket and $0.75 of packaging, you keep $11.97 — a 29.9% margin. Sold for local pickup — no fee, no label and no box — the same jacket would leave you $25.00.
| Order total (incl. tax) | Fee at 10% | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | $0.80 | Minimum fee applies (orders under $8) |
| $20.00 | $2.00 | |
| $50.00 | $5.00 | |
| $150.00 | $15.00 | |
| $500.00 | $50.00 | No maximum fee |
Shipped or local pickup?
Local pickup costs nothing in fees, labels or packaging, and you are paid straight away — but you only reach buyers nearby and you have to arrange a safe meeting. Shipping opens your listing to buyers across the country, at the cost of the selling fee, the label and packaging. The calculator shows both side by side so you can decide per item: cheap or bulky items often make more sense locally, while small, valuable items sell faster with shipping.
How to pay less in Facebook Marketplace fees
- Bundle small items into one order — US orders under $8 pay the $0.80 minimum, which is more than 10% of the order.
- Offer local pickup for heavy or bulky items so you avoid both the fee and an expensive label.
- Price in your shipping. In the US, charging the buyer for shipping adds only 10% of it (plus 10% of any sales tax on it) to the fee, while free shipping comes fully out of your profit.
- Keep proof of shipping and delivery to win disputes — in the US a chargeback carries a $20 fee that is refunded only if you win.
- Selling fees are generally non-refundable, so describe items accurately to avoid returns.
Facebook Marketplace vs other selling sites
Listing on Facebook Marketplace is free, and apart from the $0.80 US minimum there is no fixed per-order fee — you pay only when a checkout order sells. To compare it with eBay, Etsy, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and TikTok Shop for the same item, use our marketplace fee calculator or the TikTok Shop fee calculator.
